In Bari a meeting on the manna of Saint Nicholas between myth and history
“The Manna of Saint Nicholas: myth and history, religion and science, art and folklore” is the title of the round table scheduled for 5pm on Thursday 23 May at the Civic Museum of Bari on the occasion of the exhibition “Nicolaian Reflections – Light and Color between Past and Present”.

There are several scholars who will take turns at the speakers’ table. Specifically, Maria De Mola, art historian and president of Storia Patria per la Puglia – Fasano section, will analyze the issues related to Nicolaian iconography over the centuries, and Nicola Cutino, historian and president of the Mondo Antico association and Tempi Moderni onlus, will examine the figure of the Patron Saint of Bari and the scientific issues linked to the cult of Manna. Furthermore, he will not miss a precious “look to the East” from the associate professor of Slavistics at the University of Bergamo Marco Caratozzolo, who will discuss the figure of Saint Nicholas in Eastern Slavic folklore.

«We are honored – comments enthusiastically the president of the Nikolaos Foundation, Vito Giordano Cardone – to host a symposium with very important contents in the name of Saint Nicholas. The illustrious guests will make a precious contribution to the knowledge of the most venerated Saint in the world available to the participants.»

«As part of the Nicholas month – declares the director of the Nikolaos European Study Center (Ce.SEN), Giorgia Cutino – we are pleased to contribute to the historical, intercultural and artistic study of the figure of Saint Nicholas and his sacred relics. The commitment of the Nikolaos Foundation and Ce.SEN is to “donate” artistic beauty to the city of Bari, to tourists and pilgrims with the exhibition dedicated to the display of the ampoules containing Manna “Rifessi nicolaiani”, but also cultural insights of high level.”

The event takes place on the occasion of the exhibition “Riflessi Nicolaiani – Light and Color between Past and Present” dedicated to the ancient hand-painted bottles containing the Manna of San Nicola, which will be open until June 2nd in the Civic Museum of Bari.

The collective exhibition offers a selection of over 40 vials from the private collections of artists and amateurs in the local area, such as Campobasso, Volpicella, Leonardi and the Spizzico workshop, as well as some belonging to citizens devoted to San Nicola who lent them to the museum for the occasion.
