SAN FIOR (TREVISO) – They were running away with the loot after burglarizing a home. But the escape ended in tragedy, with the Smart smashed against a truck after a risky overtaking on Pontebbana, on the afternoon of 7 August 2020. Severina Sever, a 32-year-old Roma woman, died instantly at the height of Castello Roganzuolo. Yesterday morning, almost four years after the tragedy, the trial of the accomplice began, Anita Braidic, 26 years old, who was driving without ever having had a license. The woman is accused of vehicular homicide and aggravated theft. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, in fact, the two young people, who at the time lived in nomad camp of Portogruaro (Venice) had recently carried out a home burglary. On board the Smart the police, who intervened to investigate, had found jewelery and banknotes, as well as burglary tools. The suspicion immediately arose that the women were leaving after a robbery in the house, speeding away at high speed.
THE CRASH
According to the prosecution’s reconstruction, the small car was overtaking a truck in front of it and that he was completing a right turn to enter a petrol station. However, the 26-year-old driver would not have noticed Another truck was coming from the opposite lane. It was impossible to avoid the impact even for the truck driver. The two women were stuck in the passenger compartment. Once extracted from the sheets, for Severina Sever, who had become a mother for the third time a few months ago, there was already nothing left to do. The driver, however, was seriously injured: in the impact she suffered significant fractures to her pelvis and limbs. Injuries that forced her to undergo numerous surgeries and long rehabilitation. Now Braidic (defended bylawyer Nicola Caricaterra of the Court of Rome) is located in Genoa, in a shelter. At yesterday’s hearing none of the offended parties (the victims of the home invasion and the victim’s husband) appeared as a civil party. The trial has been adjourned until November 13th. At first even the driver of the truck, a 53-year-old from Ormelle, had been investigated for vehicular homicide. During the investigations, however, the charges against him were dropped because no responsibility for the accident emerged.
