THE KEY TACTICAL | Inter-Lazio: too many changes a gamble?

17.12.2023 Lazio vs Inter Serie A

by Giorgio BICOCCHI

The question is: will we ruin – totally or partially – the Scudetto celebration at Inter or will we be melancholic sparring partners in the festive Nerazzurri arena? We take sides: if we actually take the field with the lineup feared the day before (i.e. without Guendouzi, Felipe, Luis Alberto, Immobile, Lazzari, already without the suspended Romagnoli) the chances of destroying it would be – in our opinion – almost eliminated. Too much difference in values on the pitch, too many important men left in suits.

Of course, a psychological effect could open up interesting scenarios if Inter were really out of phase, weakened by the celebrations and the four and a half days of holiday granted by Inzaghi after yet another blitz in Frosinone. On the other hand, the Lazio of Genoa or the suffering one seen in Monza or with Empoli would not be able to scare anyone.

And so – in this last away match of the season – the mission is to withstand the blow, perhaps playing more compactly, closing ranks, avoiding the classic Nerazzurri counter-plays.

Could it be a tactic – Tudor’s – to deploy a more working-class Lazio from the first minute and then release the strongest players along the way? Anything can be, of course. The first minutes will be decisive when we understand that Inter will have lined up in front of us. That is, whether it will be a team that is on track or whether it will adapt to the party, satisfied, satiated and even distracted. Let’s face it: we believe very little in the Champions League but it would bother us to lose – after four years of dominance – the city’s primacy. But unfortunately this season’s stuttering Lazio has also left open the possibility of city eviction…
