“My football essentially has three characteristics. It must be balanced, proactive and intense. Balanced in the sense that I want a team that knows how to attack and defend with the same effectiveness. Intense because I would always like an active team. Not only from an athletic point of view, the intensity is also mental, when you are able to stay in the match for 90 minutes mentally, tactically and technically. The intensity – which Vigneri asks for – is 360°. Finally, proactive. An exploited concept, where one often passes for ‘scientists’. It is not so. Football is a game that was born as an offensive game and above all it is a collective sport. So being proactive consists in defending yourself to recover the ball and score a goal. Don’t defend yourself just to avoid suffering it. An aggressive, active defense that tries to take away space and time from the opponent. Instead – once in possession – I want us to impose our game and try to dominate. Within the limits of what the opponent allows you.”
