Wounded in the legs by gunshots: three arrests by the police

Three arrests for the wounding of a criminal on 24 September in Piazza Carlo Maria Carafa in Grammichele. The 40-year-old had been wounded in the legs by two gunshots. The shooter was a 26-year-old who was in the company of two others, all from Caltagirone. The operational section of the Carabinieri company of Caltagirone and the Grammichele station carried out precautionary measures in relation to the crimes of aggravated personal injury in competition through the explosion of firearms, possession and carrying in a public place of a common weapon by shot, issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Caltagirone. The 26-year-old was taken to prison, with house arrest for a 23-year-old and a stay-at-home order for a 24-year-old.

The victim of the wounding, who went to the emergency room of the Caltagirone hospital for treatment, had initially provided the investigators with an untruthful reconstruction of the event, circumstantiating it in an episode by unknown persons which instead occurred in a peripheral area of the municipality of Grammichele, according to him, probably to be attributed to a love affair he had with a local woman. Only the immediate investigative information activity, also supported by technical activity, carried out by the carabinieri made it possible to deepen our knowledge of the facts which, by pure chance, did not also involve defenseless citizens and even a few-year-old girl present on the spot.

The acquisition of footage from the video surveillance system of a commercial establishment, in fact, documented the phases of the shooting, providing the police with information on the identity of the attackers, all of whom were visually recognized by the police at the station. The 40-year-old in particular, as emerged during the investigations by the operational section of the company, had a heated argument with the 26-year-old and the 23-year-old that very morning, due to having personally noticed the presence of his daughter in the car with the two. On that occasion the man allegedly ordered his daughter to get out of the car, then slapped the two boys, taking the vehicle away from the younger one, as if to teach him a lesson.

In the evening, then, the meeting between the three recipients of the precautionary measure and the victim would have taken place, during which the latter would have returned the car to the rightful owner, only to then be injured by gunshots suddenly fired at him by the 26-year-old close distance. The execution of a search at the home of the 26-year-old shooter, again, allowed the police to find two pistols, both owned by the latter’s cohabiting grandfather, one of which in particular, a semi-automatic Beretta cal. 7.65, pending the technical laboratory tests of the Carabinieri Ris of Messina, the one used in the blood crime would appear to be compatible.

However, if the notification of the mandatory residence order against the 24-year-old did not pose any particular problems for the carabinieri, things were different for the other two who preferred to flee and lose their traces. The operational section of the Carabinieri company of Caltagirone, liaising with the German police, provided useful elements for the exact location of the 23-year-old fugitive who, in fact, was tracked down and arrested in Germany in the city of Weinheim, while the 26-year-old, who would have physically shot at the victim, he was arrested at the port of Palermo as soon as he disembarked from a ferry coming from Genoa.
