It’s a terrible accident that involved Gaetano Di Vaio56-year-old actor, director and producer who has linked his name to cinematic successes, starting with the television series “Gomorrah”.

The impact

On the night between Wednesday and Thursday he was traveling on his scooter via Santa Maria a Cubito – in the stretch included in the Municipality of Qualiano – when for reasons that are still being ascertained by the police he skidded, losing control of the vehicle and falling violently. A terrible accident. Now the producer is hospitalized in very serious conditions inGiugliano hospital in Campania, where he was transported under code red. He suffered serious internal injuries, and what is most worrying is a severe brain trauma with consequent edema. The prognosis remains reserved. In an attempt to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident, the police also acquired footage from some video surveillance cameras in the area. Di Vaio was returning from marriage of a nephew.

From the early hours of the morning, many friends began to gather outside the “San Giuliano”. Many have also expressed closeness and affection on social media.

Difficult youth

Born on 27 February 1968 in Naples, in the Piscinola district, Di Vaio was the protagonist of a story of social redemption worthy of one of those Hollywood films made specifically to triumph at the Oscars. The turbulent suburban boy who had risked drowning in the whirlpool of delinquency, drug addiction and prison, had instead re-emerged stronger than ever and, after hard work on himself, completely recovered and reintegrated into society. In 2003, he founded the cultural association and then independent “factory” “Sons of the Bronx”, which later became the film production company “Bronx Movie”.

In 2013 he told his biographical story in the book “You will never have me”, written together with the director Guido Lombardi and published by Einaudi. Lombardi himself produced the debut feature film “Là-bas – Criminal Education”, awarded in 2011 at the Venice Film Festival as best first work. Never reticent about his past, but fully aware and rightly proud of the work he has done on himself over the years to rebuild a full life worth living, in the name of culture and civil commitment, Gaetano has often said of himself: «What pushed me in everything I did in life was always a very strong desire to communicate with others». As a director he has created intense and civilly committed docu-films, including “Il Their Natale”, “Perpetual Interdiction” and “Largo Baracche”. As an actor he was the Camorra ‘O little baron in the Sky TV series “Gomorrah”.
