A Brindisi discreetly guarded by the police is experiencing in a more than calm, almost anesthetized manner, the hours of the dinner that the Presidency of the Italian Republic has organized as a symbolic opening of the G7 organized in the north of the Brindisi province.
Avenues without too many people around, the beautiful seafront almost clear, despite the heat which would have invited more people to frequent it, from which you can see in all their grandeur the two enormous ships which are being discussed so much in these hours, the ones destined to welcome, apparently not very brilliantly, the thousands of soldiers and police rushed in to ensure safety.
A security that certainly could not endanger the participants in the peaceful protest demonstration organized by the No-G7 Movement, pleasantly called “The dinner of the poor”, in response to the sumptuous one that the leaders of the G7 countries were preparing to consume in the Castle Svevo overlooking the sea of Brindisi, with the tasting of frize, couscous and wine more affordable than that contained in the bottles tasted at the gala dinner.
In spite of unfounded fears, perhaps artfully spread, about the arrival of organized violent groups in Brindisi, Piazza della Vittoria saw the presence of a large number of peaceful demonstrators, who protested against economic interests, those of industry war, which in fact start all wars. And therefore a place strongly opposed to the Atlantic Alliance, just as Zelensky proudly claimed, after being welcomed in Borgo Egnazia, that today Ukraine is closer to joining NATO, neglecting to consider how precisely this, together with the question of Russian-speaking territories of Donbass, was the casus belli underlying the outbreak of the conflict with Russia.
A square that has repeatedly denounced what is happening in the land of Palestine, with the ruthless and inhuman violence perpetrated against a defenseless people, with respect to which the “greats of the Earth” continue, helpless if not conniving, to talk about the solution of ” two peoples, two states”, without even bothering to clarify on which territorial bases this should happen, while the Israeli army continues to rage using mainly US weapons.
An event also enlivened by dancing to the rhythm of the Salento tarantella, followed with interest by many information workers, including foreigners, fascinated by the climate of warm welcome, solidarity and sharing that characterized the evening in one of the most important squares of Brindisi.
Furthermore, the No G7 Movement will continue in these days to propose its own alternative point of view with respect to the agenda addressed by the highest representatives of the most industrialized countries, with conferences tomorrow in a farm in Ostuni and a demonstration in the streets of Fasano on Saturday, the day of closing of the event.
