The barracks of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Agrigento opened its doors to the students of the “Garibaldi” Comprehensive Institute of Realmonte as part of the initiatives aimed at promoting the culture of legality. An intense day, organized at the end of a series of meetings in which important issues were addressed, including bullying and the conscious use of social networks, which gave the young students the opportunity to get to know the different departments more closely of the Carabinieri, in particular the Operational and Radiomobile Unit, the Biodiversity Department of the Forestry Carabinieri of Reggio Calabria and the Dog Unit of Palermo.
The young and attentive visitors, accompanied by their teachers, followed the explanations by asking many questions and had the opportunity to see and touch the equipment of the Operational Section and the Radiomobile Section, to climb on the car radios and motorbikes supplied, to listen to communications with the Operations Center live, as well as discover the radio equipment used to carry out the delicate work of coordination and support for external patrols and response to citizens through the single emergency number “112”.
Between one activity and another they met and caressed Blade, the dog of the Palermo Dog Unit and explored the activities carried out by the Carabinieri of Biodiversity which is responsible for protecting nature.
The visit to the Provincial Command was also an opportunity to visit the exhibition “Valuing the Underwater”, where the archaeological finds recovered such as terracotta artefacts of various types, fragments of a sarcophagus recently delivered to the Griffo museum in Agrigento by Cultural Heritage Protection Command of Rome and numerous amphorae found in the sea off the Sicilian coast. The students, Carabinieri for a day, had the opportunity to learn, through direct contact, the different functions carried out by the military as part of their daily activity in the service of citizens. The Carabinieri, close to young people as well as to all members of the community, considers these opportunities for meeting and mutual knowledge as an opportunity to strengthen the message of legality and safety with society.
