He will not have to serve a life sentence Pierangelo Pellizzarithe 62 year old from Vicenza who killed his wife, Rita Amenze, with three gunshots fired in the car park of the company where the 31-year-old worked in Noventa Vicentina. The Court of Assizes of Appeal of Venice annulled the first degree sentence, transforming it into 19 years of imprisonment.

The judges, writes the Vicenza newspaper, did not consider premeditation proven. The outcome of the psychiatric report, which found Pellizzari’s capacity for understanding but also a slight cognitive deficit, may also have influenced the judges’ decision.

Rita Amenze’s femicide

Rita Amenze, a 31-year-old of Nigerian origin, was killed in the early morning of September 10, 2021. She had parked the car and was about to start her shift at the company where she worked, MF in Noventa Vicentina, specialized in the marketing of mushrooms. Her husband, Pierangelo Pellizzari, before reaching her, calmly drank a coffee at the bar, then approached her with a pink folder in his hands, telling her that she would have to sign the divorce papers: an excuse, because those papers were never found. When he was close enough, she fired three shots in rapid sequence and then fled in a gray Jeep. Pellizzari was arrested a day and a half after the femicide, in the chicken coop of the marital home in Villaga. Her wife was afraid of being killed, which is why after a last fierce argument she left home and the day before being killed she asked the police for help, but without filing a complaint.
