It was 1982 when Giuni Russo debuted with the new single “Un’estate al mare”. Who knows if she would have imagined such a success. After over 40 years it continues to be one of the songs that welcomes the summer. But how much does it cost to spend a summer at the seaside? Our investigation examined the northern coast of Tuscany from Torre del Lago to Marina di Carrara to understand what prices tourists and residents will have to face for the upcoming 2024 season.
The criteria of our research fell on beach establishments that offer an average price – neither too cheap nor too expensive – taking into consideration the cost of an umbrella for the entire season and, where possible, a bi-weekly formula. The results did not cause too many surprises: the baths of Forte dei Marmi win the gold medal for the highest prices, while Torre del lago and Marina di Carrara are the most accessible.
Starting right from the hamlet of Giacomo Puccini, the Andrea Doria beach club asks its customers 1,000 euros for an umbrella with two deckchairs and a sunbed for the entire season in the area close to the sea, while in the rearmost part it drops to around 800 euros. After passing the free beach of Lecciona, arriving in the Darsena of Viareggio, Bagno Teresa for the summer of 2024 has decided to set the price of an umbrella with two deckchairs and a sunbed at 1,550 euros while as regards the bi-weekly formula with the same solution it drops to 450 euros in low season and 600 euros in high season. Continuing, after passing the Burlamacca canal you reach the Passeggiata di Viareggio. There, the Duilio establishment has opted for a price of 1,350 for an umbrella with two deckchairs and a sunbed for the entire season, while for the biweekly formula it drops to 170 euros in June and September, and 280 euros in July and August. After crossing the Fossa dell’Abate bridge you arrive at Lido di Camaiore and prices begin to rise. The Ninetta bathroom offers its customers a price of 1,850 euros for an umbrella with a director’s chair, a sunbed and a deckchair, which increases the closer you get to the sea. While as regards the biweekly formula, with the same services the cost is 300 euros in June, 225 euros in September and 380 euros for July and August.
Continuing towards Marina di Pietrasanta, Bagno Internazionale has decided to opt for a price of 1,500 euros for an umbrella with two deckchairs and a sunbed, if you add the cabin it becomes 2,050 euros. There, a daily formula of 23 euros per day is offered, except on pre-holidays and holidays. So on a 15 day booking about 300 euros. In the Fiumetto part it is almost impossible to find a beach establishment with umbrellas. Eden Park, for example, only has tents with two deckchairs, two sunbeds, a table and a director’s chair at a cost of 3,400 euros for the season, while 620 euros for the bi-weekly formula.
Moving to the luxurious Forte dei Marmi, the Milan establishment asks 3,000 euros for the season for two deckchairs and a sunbed. For a monthly formula it is around 1,300 euros.
Leaving Versilia, you arrive in Marina di Massa and prices drop considerably. The Nuovo Lido bathroom asks its customers 1300 euros for a seasonal umbrella with two deckchairs, a sunbed and a storage table, while monthly prices range from 360 to 540 euros. Also on the Massa coast, Bagno Marco offers a seasonal umbrella for 1,500 euros, while 410 for the bi-weekly formula.
The northern part of the Tuscan coast closes with Marina di Carrara. Here, the Florence establishment has decided to opt for a cost of 1,300 euros for a seasonal umbrella with two deckchairs and a sunbed, while for the biweekly formula it goes from 240 euros in June and September to 300 euros in July, up to 340 euros in the weeks of August.
