The season of Tavagnacco the women’s Serie B has not yet concluded but with one match to go the fate of the Friulians is already sealed. In fact, the Udine club will end their championship in fifteenth position, a position which will lead to relegation to Serie C.
A decidedly negative season for the Tavagnacco girls, who in 29 games played only achieved 12 points with three wins and three draws. A sad fate that has loomed for this club, which until a few years ago was a constant presence in the Serie A of Women’s Football, also reaching important peaks such as the second places in the standings in 2011 and 2013 and the two consecutive victories in Italian Cup between 2012 and 2013.
In recent years, however, many things have changed. The relegation to Serie B in 2020 had already sent important signals, signals that seemed to be even more amplified last season, when the Friulians remained in the category only after the repechage. The current season has demonstrated the difficulties of this team which will return to Serie C for the first time since 1998.
After the glory years, in which Tavagnacco was a certainty for women’s football, the latest championships have marked an unpleasant decline for the club but also for the entire women’s football movement in Friuli Venezia Giulia. There are no companies on the horizon that can imitate the path followed by Tavagnacco, retracing his footsteps and results. From now on the situation risks being very difficult and there will be a long time ahead before we can hope to see another club from the region take to the pitch in the top flight of women’s football.
Next Sunday the Tavagnacco team will officially close their season against Ravenna Woman (last in the standings) in front of their home fans. An opportunity to say goodbye to the category in a dignified manner, while waiting to plan what we hope will be a quick and well-deserved recovery.
