During elections, in many municipalities schools are transformed into polling stations for voting. In June there will be voting in the European elections, in numerous municipalities for the administrative elections, and in Piedmont for the regional elections. The ministry’s circular on the closure of schools for elections
L’8 and 9 June we vote for the renewal of European Parliament. On the same days, 3,701 municipalities are called to the polls for the administrative elections and the citizens of Piedmont also for them regional elections. When schools close in Italy, region by region
The school calendar is established by the individual regions which, in full autonomy, decide the start and end dates of lessons, as well as those relating to the main holidays and long weekends during the school year. For 2024, the dates of the last day of school in different regions vary over a time window ranging from 6 to 14 June 2024. Here’s when schools will close region by region regardless of the elections:

- Marche: 6 June 2024;
- Sardinia: 7 June 2024;
- Puglia: 7 June 2024;
- Sicily: 8 June 2024;
- Lombardy: 8 June 2024;
- Molise: 8 June 2024;
- Lazio: 8 June 2024;
- Campania: 8 June 2024;
- Friuli Venezia Giulia: 8 June 2024;
- Veneto: 8 June 2024;
- Piedmont: 8 June 2024;
- Liguria: 8 June 2024;
- Abruzzo: 8 June 2024;

According to the provisions of the Ministry of the Interior, the school complexes hosting polling stations will close early “unless otherwise agreed upon locally”. This means that, excluding the schools that would have closed on June 6th anyway (those of theEmilia Romagnafrom the Marche and of Valle d’Aosta), in most of those where voting operations will take place the students will go on holiday on Thursday 6 June.
In detail, 6 June 2024 will be the last day of school for the institutions hosting polling stations for the elections of 8 and 9 June in:

- Puglia;
- Sicily;
- Lombardy;
- Molise;
- Lazio;
- Campania;
- Friuli Venezia Giulia;
- Veneto;
- Piedmont;
- Liguria;
- Abruzzo;
- Basilicata;
- Calabria;
- Umbria;
- Tuscany;
However, it could be established differently for schools Trentino Alto Adigefrom the Autonomous Province of Trento and of Autonomous Province of Bolzano, where, based on the school calendar, the last day of school is scheduled for June 11th or 14th. In these cases, the end dates of the lessons may be respected regardless of whether the elections take place.
