LIVORNO – He gets out of the car to understand the nature of a problem, discovers that he needs to replace a tyre, but just as he bends down to start the job, he is hit by another vehicle. A drama that took place yesterday afternoon in the province of Livorno, in which Antonio Orlando, a 60-year-old man originally from Casarano, lost his life.
Attempts to resuscitate the man continued for about an hour, but, unfortunately, the doctors were unable to rescue Orlando from a tragic fate, which also occurred before the eyes of his brother and a friend who were in the car with him and who were left in shock.
The accident, according to what several local newspapers report, including LivornoToday and Il Tirreno, occurred on the Aurelia variant late yesterday afternoon, Saturday 11 May, near Donoratico, in the direction of Rome. Everything, as mentioned, happened when Orlando bent down to replace the tyre, after having pulled the vehicle as close as possible to the edge of the road. A precaution that was not enough, because the fatal impact occurred as another car was passing in the same direction – with the driver immediately stopping.
Orlando, as mentioned, did not die instantly. So much so that when the public assistance rescuers from Rosignano arrived on site, with the doctor on board, and from Cecina, a long, but unfortunately useless, resuscitation maneuver was attempted.
The driver immediately stopped and within a few moments the rescue car started moving, but unfortunately for the 60-year-old, despite long attempts at resuscitation by the rescuers, there was nothing that could be done. The man’s heart has stopped beating. Traffic police officers were on site to reconstruct the dynamics.
