FABRIANO – Looking for an SUV at a bargain price, a man from Fabriano was the victim of yet another online scam. The agents of the Fabriano public safety police station reported two people: a 46-year-old and a 35-year-old, both residents of northern Italy, already recipients of several. And they managed to get the defrauded person to recover 2,400 euros, despite an outlay, however, equal to 7,900 euros.
The facts
At the end of last March, a man from Fabriano went to the police station to report what had happened to him. In practice, finding himself in need of purchasing an off-road vehicle to easily travel to the mountains and off-road areas, he had monitored the specialized sites for a few days in search of a deal. Until he found what was right for him. That is to say, an SUV that is not newly registered, but has low kilometers traveled and a truly interesting price: 8,100 euros. Following a quick negotiation, conducted via WhatsApp, the Fabriano resident also obtained a 200 euro discount. And he started paying for the SUV with some bank transfers. In the meantime, he continued to monitor the sequence of phases of the transfer of the vehicle which, on the eve of the last transfer to pay the agreed price of 1,500 euros, was considered “loaded onto a car transporter and ready for shipment”. Unfortunately communications were interrupted like this. The numerous attempts by the Fabriano resident to contact the seller were to no avail: his phone was continuously busy and had probably been blocked. Hence the decision to go to the police station in Fabriano to file a complaint for fraud. The agents started the investigation, immediately blocking the sums available in the current account obtained from the Iban to which the victim had made transfers for 7,900 euros. The judicial authority ordered the seizure of the present sum, equal to 2,400 euros which was returned to the Fabriano resident. From the telephone user and from the Iban itself, the Fabriano police managed to trace the two people reported for scams: a 46-year-old and a 35-year-old, both residents in northern Italy, who had already received several reports for similar facts.
