Genoa. “We take note of Toti’s choice to avail himself of the right not to respond and to take his time. For a week, however, net of the work of the judiciary, the situation for the institutions has been unsustainable. A degraded picture, an indecent spectacle in which public interest is described as being subverted to that of private individuals in exchange for economic resources. If from a judicial point of view, to defend himself, Toti can choose the paths he deems most right for his personal position, from a political point of view, the fact that the President of the Region further postpones the definition of his position confirms, if there were still any need, that Toti cannot continue as President of the Region and that the only solution is immediate resignation and the vote, to close this indecent page of the right in government and restore the credibility of the institutions”.

Thus the group leader of the Democratic Party in the regional council, Luca Garibaldi, after the guarantee interrogation of the suspended president and to whom he decided not to speak, making use of the right not to answer.

“It is unsustainable that we continue to hypothesize botched solutions from the last days of Pompeii, with a shaky management of a pro tempore replacement. Politically, the Toti junta is finished, with indignity, and any other solution of mere survival and attachment to power is a further slap in the face to the institutions and citizens”; continues Garibaldi.

“The only way to regain credibility is the resignation of the president of the regional council and a start to the vote to give Ligurians the opportunity to choose again. There are no alternatives to unlock this framework into which the right has led our region”, concludes Garilbaldi.

Today, to another note from the Democratic Party in which they hoped for rapid resignation and a return to the vote, the vice-president Alessandro Piana, who took over Toti’s role on an interim basis, responded: “I remind the Democratic Party that the choice is not mine, but was made by the Genoa Prosecutor’s Office. I would recommend going beyond the already heard chant, the classic electoral campaign chant. But I don’t invite the opposition to collaborate with us because if they did, given our excellent results, it would increase consensus and I don’t want to give them this advice.”
