Tomato puree is one of the most purchased food products in large-scale retail outlets. It is in fact a basic ingredient used to prepare sauces with which to season typical first courses, and many other specialties of the local gastronomic tradition. Tomato puree, however, is also a food that must be bought carefully, because not all tomato puree is the same.
To find out which association is best Altroconsumo carried out a test, directly involving end consumers. The test allowed us to analyze well 25 different brands of tomato puree, which are present in discount stores and supermarkets. The test aimed to verify the possible presence of substances that may represent a danger for human health, such as copper and pesticides, to evaluate the relationship between quality and price, and also all the other features of the product. Let’s find out which tomato puree managed to pass the test.
The winner of the Altroconsumo test
Apparently the best tomato puree for Altroconsumo is the one produced by the MD chain, because it represents at the same time the economic alternative, since the average price per kilo is 1 euro and 27 cents, and obtained 74 quality points. The laboratory analyzes have excellent results, and the label is very clear. Therefore, in addition to the tomato puree from Catena MD, considered the best the winner of the test is the pass of Rica Freshly processed which also obtained 75 overall quality points.
Following this, the following were also evaluated with excellent results past Eurospin Delizia del Soland, and that of Esselunga. They both scored 73 points, and cost respectively one euro and 27 cents, and one euro and 33 cents per kg. Finally also the passed classic Conad, which costs €1.30 per kg, obtained 20 points overall.
