THE IMPORTANCE OF TRIPLE GLASS: ENERGY SAVINGS AND SILENCE IN THE HOME
In a world where energy is becoming more and more expensive and the need for energy saving is increasingly necessary, triple glazing represents a smart alternative to double glazed windows. It offers high living comfort, helping to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. It’s not a small advantage, but it represents a choice that can save you a lot of money in bills over the years. Obviously, it’s not just a question of energy saving. The triple glass also offers improved sound insulation. If you live in a noisy street, or near a bar, restaurant or venue that is also open in the evening, you will know how important it is to have some silence at home. Triple glass can make the difference between a sleepless night and a peaceful sleep. The choice between triple glazing and double glazing also depends on the specific needs of the building project and the environmental conditions in which the glass will be installed. Both options offer advantages and disadvantages, but if we start from energy containment, triple glazing always wins.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DOUBLE GLASS AND TRIPLE GLASS
Double glazing: Consists of two sheets of glass separated by an air space or insulating gas. This type of glass offers better thermal insulation than single glazing, reducing heat loss through windows and improving the energy efficiency of the building. Double glazing, if composed with certain criteria, can help the property reduce noise coming from the outside.
Triple glass: has three panes of glass separated by two insulating air or gas spaces. Compared to double glazing, triple glazing offers better thermal insulation. It can also help maintain a more stable temperature within the building. Triple glazing is usually considered to have a dispersion of Ug 0.6 W/m2K. Double glass, on the other hand, has a dispersion of 1.1 W/m2K, approximately double. We often hear it said: “triple glazing is only installed in homes that have thermal insulation, otherwise it is of no use”.
This is not true and we can explain it for three very simple reasons:
1. In many cases, windows and doors are the only element that can be improved in a home. Why not improve them as much as possible, minimizing dispersions? Here, however, triple glazing is advisable.
2. We must think about the future, the goal is to arrive at homes that waste less and less.
3. And finally: today I am replacing the windows but in the future I may want to reduce other leaks in my house. For this reason, Diatribe recommends carrying out every energy improvement intervention with a virtuous vision. A vision that looks to today but also thinks about tomorrow.
