In Brazil they are violent floods led the country to declare a state of natural disaster. In particular, the state of Rio Grande do Sul, to the south, has been hit. In recent days there have been many videos released on social media showing a tragic scenario. Of all of them, the one that particularly struck was video of a horse was stuck for two days on the roof of a house in Canoas, in the metropolitan region of the capital, Porto Alegre.
In the images you can see the animal taking refuge on the upper layer of a house completely submerged in the water. The video soon went around the world, it was given the name “Caramelo” and the hashtag “#SalvemOCavaloDeCanoas“, or “Let’s save the horse of Canoas”, was trending with over 151,000 posts asking the authorities to intervene as soon as possible.
The rescue teams of Rio Grande do Sul fortunately wrote a happy ending for the mare. Seven rescue workers worked on the operation and once they reached the roof, the animal, exhausted and worn out by the experience, was loaded onto one of the vehicles and taken to safety.
A story that gives hope in a tragic scenario: the bulletin speaks of 107 people dead, of which 136 are still missing in the flooded cities where the streets have turned into rivers.
In the meantime, operations do not stop rescue for the animals that were victims of the flood, in another video we see a dog trapped on a roof being saved by a man. The man does everything he can to approach him and convince him to get on the boat, until luckily bringing him safely on board.
More than 160,000 people have been displaced, with some municipalities literally wiped out. The mayor of Canoas coordinated the rescue operations, demonstrating how immediate response in emergency situations is fundamental.
