FRASCATI (mourning) – The memory of the Friends of Frascati Association

He passed away in Viareggio, where he lived mainly after the death of his beloved wife, at the age of 96 years old the professor. Cesare Beferaalready esteemed teacher and vice principal of the “Maffeo Pantaleoni” professional institute.
Also passionate about the history of Frascati, especially the events linked to the Second World War, personally experienced after the bombing of Frascati on 8 September 1943 and told in the two publications “Sfollati” and “La Rufinella: a life raft” where the author narrates the circumstances of the many desperate people, like him, who found themselves with nothing left, without a home, forced to live in occasional shelters.
This is the memory of Massimo Giovannotti, president of the Tuscolana Friends of Frascati Association, who organized special participatory conferences for the presentation of the two books: “I was saddened to learn of the passing of my dear friend from Frascati and my dearest friend, Cesare Befera, a professor much loved by those who had him as a teacher or colleague. Of his activity with the “Friends of Frascati”, I remember the publication of his two books “Sfollati” and “La Rufinella”.
Thanks to a patient work of reconstruction, his prodigious memory and the numerous anecdotes reported, Cesare effectively reconstructed the city’s history in the 1940s, often softening the unfavorable situations of those moments with positive messages of hope: all this has left precious legacy to all of us”. The funeral will take place on Saturday 11 May at 10 am in St. Peter’s Cathedral.
