SAN CASCIANO – Enter the San Casciano museum and breathe “home air”. As you do with an old friend, who at first glance suggests déjà vu.
And at the same time it leads towards something new, a place, an opportunity, a space where you can explore artistic and cultural knowledge, travel to discover the infinite worlds of languages and expressive forms of the image.
In the month of May the Municipality of San Casciano offers a wide range of opportunities to experience the “Giuliano Ghelli” exhibition center in a transversal way.
It is dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the death of Giuliano Ghelli (1944-2014), a famous artist loved and appreciated by the San Casciano community, the event scheduled today, Friday 10 May (which also coincides with the day of the artist’s birth), at 6 pm in the rooms of the museum which brings the his name.
The event, curated by the director Nicoletta Matteuzziincluded in the regional program of “Amico Museo” events which promotes the valorisation, accessibility and usability of museums as creative hotbeds aimed at generating opportunities for knowledge and socialisation, aims to present video clips illustrating the works that make up the collection monograph of works by Giuliano Ghelli, created by Giulia Barlettaas well as curator of the collection.
For the mayor, Roberto Ciappi, it is “a participatory opportunity to enter into the works of Giuliano Ghelli, through the creation of a collection of videos which will be made available to the public as material to consult and for carrying out study and research”.
This will be followed by a guided tour of the Contemporary Art section.

Among the events scheduled for the month, the appointments of the Arte Viva cycle continue.
On Saturday 11 May at 4pm Nicoletta Matteuzzi will offer an in-depth discussion on the figure of Mariotto di Cristofanoa small late Gothic master who created the wall decoration of the church of Sant’Andrea in Luiano, a fragment of which is preserved in the museum.
The councilor for culture, Maura Masini, underlines that “the initiative is part of the cycle of events open to the public, promoted and organized by the Municipality with the aim of highlighting the origins, contents and characteristics of the works, even in an unpublished form , the authors of the paintings and sculptures that are part of the new collection of the museum located among the rearranged rooms of the Sacred Art section”.

Another “video collection”, aimed in this case at the little ones, is the one presented on Saturday 25 May at 10.30 am.
“This is a series of new storytelling videos – explains the director of the Museum Nicoletta Matteuzzi, as well as head of the Chianti Valdarno Museum System – animated by the illustrator Rebecca Serchi which present and explain the most significant works of the Ghelli Museum to bring the mignon public closer to artistic language and promote understanding of the collection in girls and boys”.
“The journey on the trail of art will be led by Gufo Ufo – he anticipates – the museum’s mascot, with whom it will be possible to experience adventures and special encounters with other “friends” of life and of the brush. The presentation, aimed at families, will be enriched by a creative workshop organized by AMISC.
The last event not to be missed is the one to be held on Wednesday 29 May at 6pm with the initiative “He was looking for beauty in all its forms”.
Protagonist is Ettore Spalletti which presents the volume of proceedings of the study day in memory of Carlo Del Bravocreated on the occasion of the exhibition “Jacopo Vignali in San Casciano in Val di Pesa” (2022).
The volume is edited by the professor Lorenzo Gnocchi (UniFi) and is published by Masso delle Fate. The meeting will end with a guided tour of the new Sacred Art section of the Ghelli Museum. Free admission.
