A minute of silence for the victims of the tragic workplace accident that occurred in Casteldaccia. Thus began, yesterday morning, at the “Le Ciminiere” exhibition center in Catania, the meeting of the ASP of Catania with the schools of the Etna city, on the topic “Prevention in the workplace starts from school desks”.
The initiative, organized by the Prevention Department of the ASP of Catania, is in continuity with the World Day for Safety and Health at Workcelebrated on Sunday 28 April, and aims to promote the culture of prevention and safety at work, as a value and civic heritage of the education of the young generations.
Over 500 students from 20 high schools in Catania participated in the event and were involved in numerous activities focused on safety and health in the workplace, with the screening of short films, readings and simulations of the “Operational Notebook for training of teacher-trainers”. The special guest of the initiative was the actor Henry Guarneri.
The day opened with greetings from representatives of local institutions, who underlined the need to develop and grow a new culture of health and safety at work among the young generations, focused on individual and collective responsibility, with a different awareness not only of risk, but of the right to life.

The appointment was introduced by Antonio Leonardidirector of the Prevention Department, and was moderated by Salvina Gemmellarohead teacher of ITS “Vaccarini”, and Santo DeLucadirector of the Prevention and Safety Service in the Workplace (Spresal) of the ASP of Catania.
Three activities are subsequently scheduled:
- The school context and school-work alternationsimulation of the “Operational Notebook”, led by Elisa Gerbino and Valeria Oldmanagers of the Health and Safety Protection Area in the Workplace, of the Prevention Department
- Readings of passages on prevention in the workplaceedited by Patrizia D’Arrigoteacher of the ITS “Vaccarini”, and the actress Mirella Petralia
- Fire prevention starting from schoolswith the intervention of Luca Scrofani, cprovincial fire brigade command of Catania.
