They were donated to the project Donacibo Cesena Floodpromoted by Cesena Solidarity Bank the funds raised through the campaign “Let’s not turn off the spotlight” – for a total of 10 thousand euros – in order to help the Romagna community affected by the 2023 flood. The initiative was coordinated by Community Foundation of the Aosta Valley and jointly promoted by seven service clubs, Lions Aosta Host, Lions Aosta Mont Blanc, Lions Club Cervino, Rotary Club Aosta, Rotary Club Courmayeur, the Société de la Chapelle Italienne of Geneva And Soroptimist Valle d’Aostawith the collaboration of CSV Valle d’Aosta.

The families – 136 families taken care of for a total of 478 people affected by the flood – were identified by the volunteers of Cesena Solidarity Bank. These were allocated food products and basic necessities, but also shopping vouchers and direct cash aid, for a total that overall exceeds 120 thousand euros.

“One year after the flood, the need still persists”, explains the Secretary General of the Valle d’Aosta Community Foundation, Patrick Vesan “This is why we thought of building a support network with the participation of many organisations. Often when these tragedies occur the initial attention is maximum, but then as time passes there is a risk of forgetting those left behind. Valle d’Aosta instead wanted to give a signal”

This aid consists not only in the distribution of goods and small economic support, but also in creating a relationship of solidarity and closeness with the families who are still suffering. This action, promoted by the Solidarity Bank of Cesena, could extend beyond this area, also affecting the territories of Forlinese and Faenza, among those most affected in the area”.

Countryside “Let’s not turn off the spotlight” aimed to provide concrete help to the Romagna community affected by the drama of the flood, with the aim of supporting some specific projects carried out on site to promote reconstruction and initiatives to resume ordinary life. The service clubs involved, the Community Foundation of the Aosta Valley and the CSV Valle d’Aosta thank all those who participated in the fundraising, demonstrating the solidarity and commitment of the Aosta Valley community towards those in need.

“The people of the Aosta Valley know what it means to be hit by a flood, in a sudden and devastating way – he explains Silvia GallianoPresident of the Lions Aosta Host and member of the Soroptimist VdA – it is a wound that, despite the time that has passed, does not heal completely, so it was spontaneous to raise funds to help those who have found themselves experiencing an unpredictable event”.

“Many families still feel abandoned now, struggling with bureaucracy for requests for compensation that do not cover the costs of movable property – he explains Claudio Latino, President of the CSV of Valle d’Aosta – so this method of help has proven to be simple, immediate, direct, complementary and not a substitute for other forms of relief, and even if the amount is limited for each family it is a sign of accompaniment and social cohesion. This collection involved numerous voluntary associations who supported the campaign with resources and commitment: once again our region exports good practices and a clear, renewed idea of an authentic “supportive community”.
