Bufalini from Cesena, the 48-year-old of Albanian origins who on Tuesday afternoon set himself on fire in front of an apartment building in Riccione, in Viale Milano, near the canal port, remains in a serious condition.

The man doused himself with alcohol and set himself on fire before his wife’s eyes. A passerby saved him. The previous day the 48-year-old had collected his belongings by clearing out an apartment in the condominium, and leaving them in the corridor. The apartment is reportedly rented to another person. The man who attempted to take his own life was not unknown to the social services of the Municipality of Riccione. He showed up for the first time four years ago asking for help to pay the rent. Help that was given to him. Then Social Services never saw him again until the call came on Monday. When the procedures to vacate the apartment in the condominium on Viale Milano were at a very advanced stage, the 48-year-old contacted Social Services asking for an appointment, the municipal administration explains. The appointment was given to him on Tuesday morning. Given the situation, procedures were initiated which provide for the offer of an emergency stay in an accommodation facility or, given that there was availability, medium-term accommodation of those used to manage housing emergencies. From what was reported at the town hall, both solutions would not have satisfied the 48-year-old who set himself on fire a few hours later. Yesterday his wife had a conversation with Social Services after resigning from hospital due to the severe shock she suffered.
