On the occasion of Call for ideas “A Responsible Space for sustainability” , which schools can participate by May 20thAIDAA, ASI and Leonardo are organizing 3 webinars dedicated to the topics of sustainability in space.
The second webinar will be held on April 19th at 4.30pm. In this second meeting, in which he will participate Mark of Clement – UTC ASI Manager, we will talk about ecological materials and space waste management. Due to the extreme conditions that objects sent into space have to endure during one or more phases of their life, it is necessary to use particularly high-performance materials in terms of resistance to high forces, high temperatures, impacts, etc. The production of these materials, the processes necessary to obtain the required components and the possible recycling at the end of their life are increasingly becoming a challenge, especially with a view to the sustainable development of space exploration.
With the growing number of objects orbiting the Earth, space waste management is a crucial aspect of sustainability in space. The activities of identification, monitoring, prediction of future evolution, mitigation and reduction of their number, recovery (also for recycling purposes) of these objects are essential operations to preserve the space resource.
