The stage winner Benjamin Thomasimmediately after arriving, declared: “It was like a long chase on the track. At the end every sprint was taken at full throttle. With 10 km to go, with 50 seconds, I started to think that we could aim for victory. We also had the wind in our favour. In the last kilometer I remembered Carcassonne, where I missed out on victory in similar conditions, and I thought that maybe today would be my day when Andrea Pietrobon attacked. Maybe it was destiny to get my first big victory in Italy , where I live, and I’m happy to have achieved the first success for Cofidis. I saw my teammates very happy.”
The Pink Jersey Tadej Pogacar he said: “Today was an interesting day. The last hour was very fast with a very tense finish. The breakaway remained in front because it started late and no one was able to patch things up. Tomorrow will be a stage to be covered carefully so as not to waste time “.
