NEWS. San Donà, a waste treatment shed on fire
At 11.10am today, Wednesday 8 May, the firefighters intervened in the Grassaga area of San Donà due to a fire inside a waste treatment shed, which deals with the reclamation of plastic, metal and composite containers. No one was injured. The flames affected the material being treated with the combustion products invading the entire structure. The firefighters extinguished the flames in the containers, which caused significant smoke production. The causes of the fire are being investigated by firefighters. The structure was closed until the systems and healthy conditions were restored.
ECONOMY. Fishing, tenders for 8 million euros are on the way
The programming of EMFFA 2021-2027, the European structural funds dedicated to the maritime sector, comes to life. Veneto can count on an allocation of 46 million euros, of which 8 million are assigned to the Venetian Flag and Galpa Chioggia and Delta del Po, the two local action groups that have launched their action plans with the Veneto Region local. The resources will be assigned through tenders that will be published by the summer and are aimed at supporting the relaunch of the regional fishing system, hit by a contraction in recent years, and putting it back at the center of the local economy. With special attention paid to the new challenges to be faced: one above all the blue crab emergency.
CULTURE. Isabelle Huppert President of the Jury of the 81st Venice Film Festival
The French actress Isabelle Huppert will preside over the International Jury of the Competition of the 81st Venice Film Festival. The decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Biennale, which adopted the proposal of the Artistic Director of the Cinema Sector Alberto Barbera. Isabelle Huppert in accepting the proposal stated: “It is a long and wonderful story that binds me to the Venice Film Festival. Becoming a privileged spectator is an honor. Today more than ever cinema is a promise. The promise to escape, to shock us, to surprise, to look the world in the face, united in the diversity of our tastes and ideas.”
NEWS. Portegrandi Basin mobile bridge, work begins
The redevelopment works on the mobile bridge of the Portegrandi navigation lock, in via Marzi, on the Silone canal, have begun. The works involve the widening of the bridge by one meter, to make the transit of pedestrians and cyclists safe, separating it from that of vehicles. The bridge movement system will be automated, in sync with the basin and with remote control. The expected duration of the works is approximately two months. In this first phase, to allow the execution of the works, a temporary ban on vehicular, cycle and pedestrian transit of the mobile bridge was established by order of the local police until 26 May. The overall investment on the site is approximately 600 thousand euros.
