A few hours after the start of the vast fire that broke out in a company in Bolzano, Alto-Adige, thethe president of the province Arno Kompatscher takes stock of the situation and reassures the population: – “The intervention of the firefighters worked perfectly and the situation is now under control. It is important that there was no risk to people and that there were no injuries. Also with regards to the air pollution, no dangerous substances were affected,” he said Kompatscher which among its responsibilities also includes civil protection.
The fire broke out in the Alpitronic company, located in the Piani industrial area, one of the most renowned in the production of charging stations for electric cars. The factory was destroyed by flames and, even from a distance, a huge plume of smoke was visible.
A high school located nearby was evacuated.
The firefighters – permanent and volunteers from the city of Bolzano, Oltrisarco-Aslago and Gries – were involved in the firefighting operations and also took water from the nearby Isarco river. From all points of the Bolzano basin a black column of smoke was visible.
Civil Protection recommends closed windows and air conditioners turned off
Civil Protection has recommended keeping doors and windows closed, turning off air conditioning and ventilation systems and avoiding outdoor activities for the next few hours. The airspace above the city of Bolzano is closed. The firefighters of the Permanent Corps and the Provincial Agency for the Environment and Climate Protection are carrying out a precautionary sample collection.
The South Tyrolean governor Arno Kompatscher arrived on site together with the provincial councilor Luis Walcher, and the deputy mayor of Bolzano Stephan Konder.
