He died after a month and a half in a coma, the late victim of a road accident that occurred in his town, in Porto Santo Stefano, on 24 March. The life of Claudio Ballini it was marked by the tragedies that struck him, the latest being his: as a boy he lost a brother and as a young father he saw a son of just 8 months die. Also for this reason, throughout the period in which he remained in agony at the Scotte polyclinic in Siena, the Argentario and surrounding areas were rooting for him. But nothing, because yesterday the news arrived that Claudio hadn’t made it.
Ballini was riding his scooter when a week before Easter he ran into a hole in Porto Santo Stefano, in the upper part of the town. The fall and head trauma that left him unconscious were inevitable. They rescued him and, given the seriousness of his condition, immediately transferred him to a specialized center such as the Policlinico delle Scotte in Siena. There Claudio remained between life and death until the most terrible epilogue.
He worked as an excavator after attending the professional institute in Arcidosso, on the Grosseto side of the Amiata. Precisely in those years, indeed, the first of the tragedies had occurred: the death of his brother Biagio, when he was only eighteen.
And yet he had managed to overcome that trauma too, he had started over again, he had found a job, he had married Francesca with whom he had had a child who had been given the same name as his brother Biagio, without imagining (it is difficult to imagine that life can be so evil) cthat he too would have met a fate of tragedy.
It was Claudio who found him lifeless in the crib. Suffocated, as far as we could understand, by the tarp protecting the mattress that the little boy had pulled over his face.
It happened twelve years ago, but despite everything BAllini and his wife were back on their feet, they had started their lives again, they had found balance. Until the accident in Via del Campone and Claudio’s death.
