Beach at risk, the mayor of Capo d’Orlando takes action

The mayor of Capo d’Orlando, Franco Ingrillì, has announced his intention to issue a very urgent ordinance for the nourishment of the beach in San Gregorio. This intervention is necessary to prevent the risk of erosion that threatens the small square of the coastal village. Although appeals to the Sicilian Region remained unanswered, the municipal administration decided to act autonomously to protect the territory.

The area head of the Municipality’s Public Works Office, Mario Sidoti, explained that the sand necessary for nourishment will be taken from the Bagnoli accumulation, located less than 500 meters from the site of the intervention. It is expected that around 4,000 m2 of sand will be needed, but this amount could be increased as needed. The timetable indicates that the work could be completed in 10 days once it begins.

Mayor Ingrillì underlined the urgency of the intervention, considering the possible worsening of sea conditions in the coming days. The signature of the ordinance is expected by Friday, and the works should begin as early as the following week, taking advantage of a period of calm seas expected in the next few days.
