One year ago, on May 8, 2023, the tragedy on provincial road 75 between Ravello and Scala, in via Valle del Dragone, when a tourist bus of a local private company, when tackling a curve, first it ran off the road and then crashed into the wall falling into the void. The young driver, 28-year-old Nicola Fusco, died. That day it was raining cats and dogs and Nicola he desperately tried to block the progress of his vehiclea 41-seater Mercedes-Benz 404 registered in 1999, with a final attempt at jump from the bus before it broke through the low wall just 60 centimeters high. A year later, in addition to the pain of the family and those who knew Nicola, there remain many questions about the dynamics but above all the exact same scenario as the accident from a year ago remains.
In 12 months, after partial release of the roadthe municipality of Ravello was only able to obtain from the Province, the competent body on the SP75, that they were placed further back the two barriers positioned a year ago at the level of the destroyed wall, to at least allow the transit of mini buses. In 12 months, the wall was not rebuilt nor the asphalt rebuilt. «There have been many delays – says the mayor of Ravello, Paolo Vuillemier – we managed to get the movies moved. It was built for the safety and widening of the road. The process for approving the project should start next week.”
For that tragedy, which remained in the hearts and eyes of the rescuers, 18 people were investigated. 15 are managers or officials of the Province of Salerno including some retired or deceased. Two family members of the victim are also under investigation, the father and sister, as managers of the tourist transport company, together with the company itself. For the representatives of the Province, the hypothesized crimes are conspiracy, cooperation, manslaughter and manslaughter. For the victim’s father and sister, the hypothesis is of an alleged violation of workplace safety regulations.
