Green Product Award 2024 in Berlin
The Green Product Award 2024 celebrated the most sustainable innovations on April 30th in Berlin with the participation of 1500 professionals from 60 countries. Qwarzo, an Italian company that develops innovative materials with high technological content, won in the Packaging category and this recognition underlines its commitment to sustainable solutions that allow the circularity of products.
Qwarzo® is a technology based on silica, one of the most naturally occurring materials, which offers a coating alternative free of plastic and microplastics. Specifically, Qwarzo® covers the paper fibers, creating a barrier, a natural armor, increasing their resistance and performance. Coated paper, with an imperceptible and plastic-free barrier layer, is therefore more robust, resistant to grease, water and heat; with this process the recyclability and compostability of the support is not altered in any way and this allows products with Qwarzo® to be recycled as paper or disposed of as organic waste.

Qwarzo® technology was born from intuition combined with technical skills and love for research. The different applications of this coating make it an extremely flexible material and adaptable to different applications; in the food sector: straws, ice cream spoons, coffee stirrers, plates, glasses; in packaging, however, containers, boxes and much more.
The official jury of the award recognized the revolutionary impact of Qwarzo®, stating: “Qwarzo offers a plastic-free coating alternative that can be applied to different materials, functionalizing them without affecting their recyclability and compostability – a true revolution for the packaging industry.“
Emiliano Caradonna, CEO of Qwarzo, expressed gratitude for the recognition: “This victory confirms our mission as pioneers in sustainable packaging. We will continue to push the boundaries of innovation for a true circular economy.“

The recognitions are not long in coming. Only this month, Qwarzo® will participate among the finalists of the Tocco Award for the FUTURE VISIONARY MATERIAL category and received a special mention as Innovative Material at Avantgarde 2024. This interest in technology is soon to be found even among large brands and in the Packaging industry.
In addition to projects under development, Qwarzo has offered its technology for the launch of various products using proprietary technology. For example, in recent months Flo Group has launched Alpha®, a set of sustainable tableware; Alcas presented its PAP thermoformed paper ice cream spoon and Gondola Packaging won the Innovation Award with its paper ice cream cup coated with the Qwarzo® barrier.
