A man set himself on fire this afternoon in Riccione after being evicted from his home. The terrible episode occurred around 4.45pm on Tuesday in Viale Milano, in the heart of the Romagna town. Various emergency services rushed here to assist the injured man who was immediately transported to hospital where he is now hospitalized in very serious conditions. The man, a 47-year-old who suffered an executive eviction, suffered burns over 70% of his body.

According to what has emerged so far, after the eviction the 47-year-old took out a bottle with flammable liquid and sprinkled the substance on his body before setting himself on fire in front of his wife. The 118 health workers arrived on site to help him and arranged for him to be transferred to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena where he is still hospitalized in the burn center. Although in serious condition, the man is not in danger of dying.

The police are also on site and are now investigating the facts to ascertain what happened. According to initial reports, the man of Albanian origin lives permanently in Riccione where he works as a waiter and is married to a woman, a Romanian citizen. It seems that the two had suffered an eviction which forced them to live on the landing of an apartment building.
