He had recently defrauded an elderly woman from Zogno, with the now classic trick of a relative involved in an accident, but the police identified him and reported him last April 30th.
The classic trick
A 43-year-old from Campania was referred to the judicial authorities, who was already known to the police for similar crimes. The dynamics with which the episode occurred are approximately the same as the cases that occurred in recent months: the subject, who arrived from Southern Italy in the Bergamo area, had first called the lady on the phone, posing as a soldier from the force.
He had said that his son had been involved in a road accident, which as one might imagine had never actually happened, explaining that he had to pay a large sum as bail to the other person involved. Later, he called her again, but changed his character: this time he passed himself off as her son’s lawyer, to give more credibility to his story.
Jewels stolen
When he managed to agitate the pensioner, he then went to her home, where he had gold jewelery with a total value of 15 thousand euros delivered, which he said was intended to compensate the alleged victim. All obviously false, a deception finally completed, with the fraudster who, after committing the crime, went to Bergamo station by taxi and then took a train to return to Campania.
However, Zogno’s soldiers – the real ones – began to investigate and managed to reconstruct the criminal’s movements, finally managing to find him and make him face his responsibilities.
Also on this occasion, the Corps wanted to launch an appeal: «We renew the invitation to citizens to always be wary of telephone calls received at their homes from self-styled members of the police force, requesting money for any reason: in such cases, they must immediately contact the single emergency number 112 by mobile phone, reporting what is happening, so as to allow immediate intervention to protect them by the police”.
