The mayors of Sulcis Iglesiente have asked for an urgent meeting at MIMIT on the crisis situation in the industrial area of ​​Portovesme – Eurallumina, Enel, Portovesme/Glencore, Sider Alloys.

«The serious critical issues have been noted, which have persisted for years, regarding the various industrial activities located in the Portovesme Industrial Area and characterized by strategic production in the aluminum and zinc sectors as well as thermoelectric energy productionwe read in the request, forwarded to the minister Adolfo Urso, to the undersecretary Fausta Bergamotto, to doctor Giampiero Castano of the Structure for business crises, to doctor Mattia Losego of the Structure for business crises, to the regional councilor for Industry Emanuele Cani and, for information, to the President of the Region Alessandra Todde -; considering that the Industrial Area still has serious infrastructural deficiencies, such as, for example, the Port which is only partially usable; having noted that to date there has been no concrete progress in the production restart activities of Eurallumina and Sider Alloys and also considering the significant reduction in production at Portovesme/Glencore and the imminent decommissioning of Enel’s thermoelectric power plant; having seen, finally, the note from the Management of Sider Alloys which communicates the Ordinary Redundancy Fund starting from next May 6th; the mayors of Sulcis Iglesiente ask for an urgent meeting between MIMIT, the Sardinia Region, local institutions and workers’ representatives, underlining that the serious socio-economic hardship of Sulcis Iglesiente becomes more and more difficult to manage with each passing day and that the Mayors cannot be left to their own devices and remain unheard.”
