Netanyahu: “With the truce proposal, Hamas wanted to prevent our entry into Rafah”

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said today that the truce proposal accepted yesterday by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas was aimed at “preventing the entry of our forces into Rafah”, in the southern Gaza Strip, where Israel launched a limited operation on the last day . This was reported by the Israeli broadcaster “Kan”.

Ahead of the talks in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, where the Israeli delegation in charge of following the indirect negotiations with Hamas went today, Netanyahu said he had instructed the delegation to “remain adamant on the conditions necessary for the release of the our hostages” and on the “essential requirements to guarantee Israel’s security”.

“The entry into Rafah serves the two great objectives of the war: the return of our abductees and the elimination of Hamas. We have already demonstrated in the previous release of the hostages that military pressure on Hamas is a necessary condition for their return. Yesterday’s proposal from Hamas was aimed at preventing our forces from entering Rafah. This did not happen. As the war cabinet established, Hamas’ proposal is very far from the requirements needed for Israel,” Netanyahu said.
