The prices of Spanish and Apulian cherries are falling: from 6 to 10 euros for the larger sizes. Spain dominates on peaches and nectarines
Also 30/40 cent loss for many vegetables at the wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Vittoria (Ragusa). An important market at European level because it is primary and where an important part of the vegetables arriving in other national markets pass. An average price that gives the dimensions of the phenomenon: the Cherry at 0.70 euros per kilo.
Only the peppers resist
“Heavy market with all items except peppers.” Words of Giuseppe Zarba, entrepreneur and president of Fedagro for the Vittoria market. The wholesaler also dropped prices by 30/40 cents. Not a small thing given that it is a production market and therefore prices are not already high. Let’s see the prices per kg in more detail: Bunch from 0.50 to 1 euro; Cherry from 0.70 to 1.20 euros; Piccadilly from 0.50 to 0.90; Datterino from 1 to 1.80; round aubergine 0.90; purple aubergine 1.30 green courgette from 0.50 to 0.85; cucumber 0.70; Green egg 1 euro”. To better understand the entrepreneur underlines: “The highest price is the freshest one”. It means that on average prices are falling. THE melons? “The roundup 1,/20- 1/30”. Peppers remain at high prices: “Red peppers at 1.80 and yellows at 2 euros”.
Bigarreau cherries from 6 to 10 euros, Spanish and Apulian product
Cherry prices are dropping rapidly. The Bigarreau variety starts from 6 euros for the Spanish and Apulian origins of both Verona and Florence with the 24/26 caliber and exceeds 8 euros for the 28/30 with both origins. In some markets this larger caliber can exceed 10 euros per kilo.
There is Spanish dominance on the peach front. The double A caliber sees prices ranging from 4.80 to 6 euros per kg, with B calibers dropping to 2/2.50 euros per kilo. Always a Spanish product and similar prices for nectarines.
