Castellammare del Golfo, ordinance to prevent fires

CASTELLAMMARE DEL GOLFO – With an ordinance, the mayor Giuseppe Faustoanticipates and extends the measures for fire prevention: the owners and tenants of land have the obligation to clean the land by 15 May 2024.

The municipal administration has also provided a fine of 450 euros for violations of the fire prevention ordinance which involves cleaning the land and areas surrounding wooded areas, houses and roads.


What does the fire prevention ordinance provide?

According to the provision it will be necessary to eliminate “sheaves of cereals, grasses, twigs, stubble, brambles, plants and dry leaves or other flammable material up to twenty meters from the edge of public roads and private roads used for public use, consequently ensuring the stripping of the land and cutting of hedges, grasses and branches that extend onto the roads themselves, as well as the immediate removal of all residues resulting from cleaning, depositing them where it is not possible to destroy them within the property at a safe distance. less than twenty meters from the edge or embankment of the road”.

This distance of twenty meters “will have to be doubled (forty metres) along the railway lines, the motorway, the road axis and along the roads where asphalt laying works are underway”.

Furthermore, by May 15th the owners of uncultivated agricultural areasof uncultivated urban green areas, the owners of villas and the administrators of buildings with attached green areas, the owners of buildings intended for agriculture, the managers of building and road sites, tourist, artisan and commercial structures with attached appurtenant areas must provide for “the cleaning at one’s own expense and at one’s own expense of land invaded by vegetation, by removing any element or condition that may represent a danger to public safety and hygiene”.

From 15 May to 31 October 2024 it will be throughout the municipal territory No fires of any kind, use open flame or electric appliances that produce sparks, open or clean firebreaks with the use of fire.

Anyone who lights a fire to clean the funds, within the times and in the manner permitted, must “preliminarily establish suitable extinguishing means, following the instructions given by the Departmental Forestry Inspectorate of Trapani, exercising the necessary surveillance until any risk is averted” .

“We have adjusted the terms to forest firefighting season. We invite citizens to clean the land as soon as possible because those covered with spontaneous vegetation become easily flammable and therefore cause fires but also the ideal habitat for the proliferation of insects – declared the mayor Giuseppe Fausto -. adaptation which also concerns other types of violation of ordinances and regulations with the same sanction, for those who, for example, dispose of and abandon special and dangerous waste”.

In the event of fires, the administrative fine for each hectare or fraction thereof burned varies from 51.65 to 258.23 euros. In the event of a fire being caused during the period from 15 May to 15 October 2024, an administrative fine ranging from 1,032 euros to 10,329 euros will be applied.
