Latiano, accident at work in the gym, released from seizure after five years

LATIANO – On 18 May 2019, during the renovation work on the gym of the “Bartolo Longo” elementary school in Latiano, a portion of the attic collapsed, overwhelming a worker, who fortunately suffered only minor injuries. Five years after the episode, while the investigations are still ongoing, the prosecutor Raffaele Casto accepted the request presented by the lawyer of the company that was carrying out the work, the lawyer Antonio Sartorio. The seals are off, the structure is no longer under seizure. And so the municipal administration led by mayor Cosimo Maiorano will be able to proceed with the works: the gym will be rebuilt practically from scratch.

That day in May five years ago, work was underway to restore prestige to a work used by the Latiano community. During the morning, part of the attic came down. The Neapolitan worker involved was injured, but still conscious. Obviously, the case investigations were opened, carried out by the carabinieri of the local station, and the Brindisi prosecutor’s office opted for the seizure of the school gym. Once the deadlines expired for the first time, in March 2021 the investigating judge Tea Verderosa of the Brindisi court arranged for a new seizure of the construction site.

The lawyer Sartorio, in presenting a request for release from seizure, pointed out that the evidentiary needs have ceased and that the structure, in addition to being at the center of a project of the municipal administration, is important for the Latiano community. Having actually accepted the request, Mayor Maiorano explained to BrindisiReport that already in June, once the school activities have ended, the works will resume, to offer Latiano a new and more equipped gym. Furthermore, the possibility that the project could benefit from Pnrr funds is being examined by the Region. In short, the release from seizure could also largely benefit the Municipality of Latiano.
