The stages are already tight to see the school campus in via Vittorio Veneto in Gorizia built. A full-bodied project that will have a first conclusion only between 2028 and 2029, as explained this morning byregional councilor for Infrastructure, Cristina Amirante. The various points of the work were illustrated in front of the assembled city councilors, preceding this afternoon’s session to vote on the dedicated urban planning variant. Various questions were submittedfirst written and then discussed.

The questions were presented at the beginning Andrea Tomasella (Lega) and Dario Baresi (Martina mayor), both on the project itself and on the future developments it will entail for the city. Also sitting in the audience were some stakeholders such as Legambiente – the only one left to speak at the end of the session – the president Gianluca Madriz of Confcommercio, the representatives of the Alighieri high school center and of Isis Galilei-Fermi -Pacassi and the committee against the demolition of the former hospital.

There were two options on the administration’s table, as recalled by mayor Rodolfo Ziberna, to transfer the locations of the Slataper and Galilei high schools: either the former barracks, owned by the municipality, or the now abandoned hospital, owned by the Region. By choosing the latter, it will also be necessary to address the buses, as well as everything else: «A frequent circular route will be established which will lead from the station to the campus to continue to the university centers of via Aviano and Santa Chiara, returning to the station via the center”.

On what will be done in the buildings that will remain empty, in via Puccini and via Diaz, the deputy mayor Chiara Gatta opened to the revision of the master plan or their sale. In any case, their disposal will not be immediate. The first reality to be moved will be that of the Slataper, the design of which is expected by mid-2025 and the execution of the works will take two years. For the Galilei, however, the funds for the design are still lacking but the estimate is that, in the end, the total cost of the works will be around 50 million euros.

Everything will be financed in part by Por-Fesr funds, meaning that everything will have to be completed in 2028 to have the reporting completed the following year. If the project is not completed, those 16.5 million will have to be returned to the European Union. The other 10 million allocated for now are from the Region, intended for the construction of a library, large gym, outdoor area, parking and access area. Then there are 5 million euros to demolish the current building, which is not bound by the Superintendence.

The only thing required by the Fine Arts, however, is the conservation of the mosaic in the tympanum of the main entrance. Also worth preserving are the works of Tino Piazza, kept in the small church, on which Rosy Tucci (Gorizia is yours) expressed his concern as well as for the former place of worship, now deconsecrated. The director of the EDR Lara Carlot has opened up the possibility of protecting this corner, although without making any promises. In any case, Tucci also pointed the finger at what will be hosted within the future complex, starting with the training offer.

“It’s not the container that counts – so the councilor – but the training offer and no one here has understood what it will be”. Franco Zotti (Zotti against everyone) instead, he wondered how and where the buses arriving from the station will pass, hypothesizing instead of placing the students in the former barracks. On this aspect, Amirante noted the long time needed to reach an agreement with the military state property, and then having to reclaim any site – such as the former Del Fante in via Duca d’Aosta – from any presence of asbestos and spills .

Asbestos which, according to what Carlot reported, should have been almost completely removed from Via Vittorio Veneto. In any case, the demolition will be able to identify its presence more easily, he explained. Furthermore, part of the inert material resulting from the demolition will be used to fill the voids in the structure with burials. “It won’t represent a problem – assured the representative of the organization – Everything else will be disposed of as special waste”. However, the basin authority was consulted regarding the risk of flooding of the Vertoibizza stream.

Responding to the data provided by the councillor, Giulia Roldo (Martina mayor) presented those of a research carried out together with other groups: «Of 1,256 people questioned, seven out of ten responded that they preferred schools to remain in the centre. Seven out of ten of those interviewed are students.” For the dem Laura Fasiolo, moving the students to this area “is completely illogical, it is an Attila operation”, highlighting instead the need to create a health citadel here. The president of Legambiente, Anna Maria Tomasichtherefore asked that measures be taken to avoid the felling of trees.
