There is a municipal nursery in Centocelle, which has been constantly targeted by thieves in the area. There have been six thefts in the space of less than a month recorded in the “L’Albero Azzurro” structure, adjacent to the Mother Teresa park in Calcutta. The first was discovered on April 12th, when unknown persons entered the facility over the weekend to steal the badge of one of the operators. Then the blows gradually became heavier. Without using the tag, but simply smashing the kitchen window, which was promptly repaired and broken several times. The loot? The pantry in the kitchen, supplies dedicated to the lunches of the little guests, which promptly disappeared between Saturday and Sunday when no one was present inside the building. A considerable inconvenience, with the staff still managing to guarantee meals, thus far avoiding a surprise closure of the nursery. In recent days, however, the blows have become increasingly heavier. Taking advantage of the closure on May 1st, someone didn’t stop to steal the oil and preserves: he entered the kindergarten and didn’t spare the rooms of the various sections, damaging the teachers’ lockers and stealing personal effects. The situation, with the latest theft reported last Friday evening and repeated again this weekend, is becoming increasingly unsustainable. A continuous attack on the structure, which is also equipped with an alarm. The pedagogical coordinator sent numerous reports to the technical office, the local police and the school councilor of the V Municipality. In recent days, a complaint was presented to the police by one of her parents. A meeting between parents and the councilor is scheduled for the next few days. But it’s not just the “Blue Tree” nest that is being targeted.

The other thefts in schools in the area

The number of thefts in nurseries and schools in the Eastern quadrant is becoming worrying. A similar theft, again in the kitchens, was recorded at “I giocosi anatroccoli” in via Prenestina Vecchia 490 this April while an attempt was foiled in the night between last Thursday and Friday in an elementary school in via Anagni. This time, after a report from the Lupa operations centre, the agents of the V Prenestino Group of the local police of Rome Capital intervened, managing to stop a thirty-year-old Italian who had already forced the access doors and damaged the presence detectors connected to the alarm system. The man, already known to the police, was reported for illegal entry into a public building, which occurred through aggravated damage and violence to property. He already had a residence ban in the territory of the Municipality of Rome.

The municipal plan

Faced with the security emergency, the Capitol is working on a project which involves the installation of anti-theft systems connected directly to 112. The plan was anticipated by the Capitoline councilor for security policies, productive activities and equal opportunities Monica Lucarelli, during a meeting of the Committee for safety and public order in the Prefecture, after the reports of the president of municipality V Mauro Caliste. The idea is to connect the system to 60 already alarmed schools present in the area and frequently targeted by thieves. However, we are still at a preliminary stage. So far there is no timely solution to a phenomenon that seems to be growing dramatically in recent weeks.
