The Management Committee of the Port System Authority of the Ionian Sea met in an extraordinary session on 3 May to discuss the presentation of an expression of interest for the identification of state-owned maritime areas with related bodies of water external to the breakwater defences, to be allocate to the creation of infrastructures suitable for guaranteeing the development of investments in the shipbuilding sector for the production, assembly and launching of floating platforms and electrical infrastructures functional to the development of shipbuilding for the production of wind energy at sea.

The public notice, issued by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security on 18 April, invites Italian AdSPs to apply in order to achieve the energy transition objectives to promote the development of offshore wind technology in the relevant ports, encourage the development of a more sustainable economy and promote innovation in the maritime sector.
The AdSP Ionian Sea will present a joint application with the AdSP Southern Adriatic Sea for the ports of Taranto and Brindisi with the coordination of the Puglia Region with which the technical and administrative evaluations are already underway.
During the meeting, President Prete illustrated the areas and related bodies of water identified, thanks to the active support of the local Port Authority Command, as suitable areas to be nominated based on the requirements and technical characteristics envisaged by the public notice and the members of the Management Committee expressed their unanimous favorable opinion regarding an initiative that goes in the direction of valorising the resources available to the Ionian port to aspire to the status of energy hub in the Mediterranean area.
