Genoa. The works that will allow the docking of larger cruise ships also on the second berth of Stazioni Marittime are continuing according to schedule. After the completion of the cutting of the passenger walkways, which in the last phase of the project will be replaced by a more modern infrastructure, the construction of the new quay edge has begun which will be remodeled to increase the approach length by approximately 80 meters thus reaching the final width of over 370 metres. This was communicated by the Port System Authority.

The works currently involve the re-profiling of the perimeter with the construction of the supporting wall on the sea side through the driving of secant piles, i.e. a series of overlapping piles capable of giving the quay the capacity to support high loads.

Furthermore, thanks to the installation of safety fences, work is proceeding without interfering with the cruise activity of Ponte dei Mille on the western side which, after the consolidation and strengthening intervention concluded in 2022, is operating at full capacity.

The next construction phase – once the new quayside has been completed – involves the lifting of the header boxes which will be moved and reused within the port and, finally, the installation of the new passenger walkways.

The strengthening of the Ponte dei Mille Levante is part of a broader project to enhance the cruise area of Genoa, which also includes the redevelopment of the former Hennebique grain silos into a multipurpose public space which will host, in addition to the new cruise hub, offices, accommodation services, cultural and museum itineraries, shopping galleries, bars and restaurants.
