Sainz had a positive day, especially looking at the qualifying results. Sprint race, however, full of frustration.

Sainz’s weekend in Miami has been very solid so far. The Ferrari driver was able to show little during the Sprint race as he was blocked by Ricciardo, while qualifying was certainly more positive. Here the Spaniard gained the third place and will be able to place Verstappen together with Leclerc in second position.

At the start of the Sprint race, Sainz finds himself forced to maintain his fifth starting position. Subsequently Ferrari’s good race pace is evident, especially with Leclerc who doesn’t let Verstappen escape.

Sainz, on the other hand, persistently tries to overtake Ricciardo to chase Sergio Perez in third place. The Australian, however, drives in a masterly manner and prevents the Ferrari driver from overtaking him. The Spaniard therefore had to settle for fifth starting position, letting his frustration shine through in interviews.

However, the qualifications in Miami were better for Sainz who managed to show his competitiveness even though he never seemed able to worry Verstappen or Leclerc. Fourth in Q1 and sixth in Q2, he finally put together a lap in Q3 and took third positionfrom the clean side of the track.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, driver #55 spoke about what he thinks will be feasible tomorrow to put Verstappen in difficulty:

“I think the one with the best pace will win, so even if we overtake at the start it won’t be easy. What for me is more likely is that with two cars up front if we keep a good race pace and with the one stop which I think we will all make tomorrow Maybe Max can be put under a little more pressure. But statistics say that when Max starts in front it is always very difficult to beat him.” these are his words.

At this point Mara Sangiorgio “contradicted” the Ferrari driver with another statistic according to which the poleman from Miami has never won the race so far. To which Sainz, somewhat jokingly, replied: “Really? Interesting, nice statistic; and where does the third part end? However we try, you know that we always try. We have made some progress compared to yesterday and that will help.”.
