“Primadonnna”, Marta Savina’s feature film wins the Elsa Morante Cinema Award –

The young Florentine director wins the prestigious award. She too will be on May 15th with the winners of the other sections at the Rai Auditorium in Naples, directed by Antonio Parlati

Naples, 4 May – The jury of the prestigious Elsa Morante Award, chaired by Dacia Maraini It’s composed by: Marco Cerbo, Enzo Colimoro, Linen Pillow, David Morante, Tiuna Notarbartolo, Antonio Parlati, Fiorenza Sarzanini, Teresa Triscariawards the 2024 Elsa Morante Cinema Award to Marta Savina for her film “Primadonna”.

Marta Savina, born in Florence, director and screenwriter, is interested in complex contemporary issues with a female background. She lived and worked in London, later moving to the United States where she graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with an MFA in directing. “Primadonna”, which won the Elsa Morante Cinema Award, is his first feature film. Produced by Capri Entertainment and MedsetFilm, in association with TenderStories and in collaboration with Rai Cinema, Vision Distribution and Sky, it tells the story of 21-year-old Lia in Sicily in the 1960s, helping her father work the land. The girl attracts the attention of the son of the town boss, but Lia refuses the courtship. Lorenzo takes by force what he considers to be his property. Lia refuses the shotgun wedding and drags Lorenzo and his accomplices to court.

The film, inspired by a woman who really existed, who was a full part of the history of women, with her creative, human and revolutionary attitude, is included among the Morante 2024 awards, dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of ” The Story” by Elsa Morante.

Also Marta Savina will be present May 15th at 10.00am at the RAI Auditorium in Naples together with the other winners of the various sections of the Award. For now, the Elsa Morante Ragazzi Awards have been announced, which will be read by thousands of young readers in Italy and around the world who make up the Morante network. It is “Il Signor Conchiglia” (never again will we leave the lives of children to the sea and to the night) (Salani) by Gianluca Caporaso,”Elsa Morante Ragazzi Award – prose and poetry”, “History of the world, from the big bang to today” (The Ship of Theseus) by Giordano Bruno Guerri,”Elsa Morante Ragazzi Award – La Storia” and “Love harder, Iranian girls walk in front of us” (Solferino) by Barbara Stefanelli, Elsa Morante Ragazzi Award – for Social Affairs. The Elsa Morante Music Awards, a Fiorella Mannoia, Carlo Di Francesco and Alfredo Rapetti Mogol, for the song “Mariposa”. The Elsa Morante Graphic Novel Award to Josephine Yole Signorelli, aka Fumettibrutti. In the next few days the jury will announce the winners of the remaining sections.
