PAESE (TREVISO) – Alessandro Izzi, the 11 month old baby, died last September 29th in the nursery bed “Raggio di Luna” in Porcellengo, would have died due to cot death syndromeindicated by the acronym Sids (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), also known by the sad nickname of “white death”.
This is a sudden and unexpected death of an infant under one year old which remains unexplained.
The expertise
The first confirmation of what had already been found during theautopsycarried out by the pathologist Alberto Furlanettowho had availed himself of the doctor’s help Diana Sacchian expert in pediatric diseases, would come from the team of the vascular pathology department of the university clinic of Padua which carried out specific analyses. The child’s airway has no obstructions which could have resulted in the asphyxia of the newborn, also due to regurgitation. The medical report would lead the Prosecutor’s open investigation towards a possible dismissal. After the tragedy they had been investigatein various capacities, the director of the kindergarten and two teachers. The accusatory hypothesis was that of manslaughter. But if Alessandro Izzi died from the “white death”, in fact an unexpected phenomenon, which could have happened anywhere, even in his cot at home, the teachers’ responsibility for surveillance would no longer exist and the investigation would be directed towards archiving.
The investigations
In fact, in the case of a completely unexpected and unpredictable event, such as that of cot death, there would be no fault or responsibility of the three operators in relation to which it would not be conceivable to contest negligent behaviour. Indeed, the two teachers and the director of the nursery would have made the child lie down correctly. The analyzes started on the couch immediately after death had, moreover, confirmed this hypothesis. Alessandro’s family, defended by the lawyer Roberta Canal, is waiting to know how the preliminary phase of the investigation will end. Because the pain of two parents who lose their little child never goes away, but at least knowing the truth about their little one’s death will, over time, heal that atrocious wound a little.
