A24 takes the American rights to Sorrentino’s Parthenope – Cinema

A24 has acquired the North American rights to Parthenope, the new film by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, competing for the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival (14-25 May). Deadline anticipates this by giving news of the acquisition by A24, the American production and distribution company, whose catalog includes successes such as The Zone of Interest, Past Lives, After Sun and the recent Civil War.

Parthenope – written and directed by Paolo Sorrentino – is a Fremantle film produced by Lorenzo Mieli for The Apartment Pictures, a Fremantle group company, Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent, Paolo Sorrentino for Numero 10 and Ardavan Safaee for Pathé. At the moment the distribution in Italy has not yet been announced; Fremantle handles international sales.

The film follows Partenope, born on the seaside of Naples in 1950, who seeks happiness during the long summers of her youth, falling in love with her hometown and its many memorable characters. Sorrentino shot the Italian-French co-production between Naples and Capri. The cast includes Dario Aita, Celeste Dalla Porta, Silvia Degrandi, Isabella Ferrari, Lorenzo Gleijeses, Biagio Izzo, Marlon Joubert, Peppe Lanzetta, Nello Mascia, Gary Oldman, Silvio Orlando, Luisa Ranieri, Daniele Rienzo, Stefania Sandrelli and Alfonso Santagata.
