No injuries were reported but a lot of damage due to flooding of shops and garages. And also to the cherry orchards

MODENA – The work of the Fire Brigade continues incessantly, working together with the technicians of the Municipality of Savignano also on a landslide in via Basilicata which caused the fall of some trees, preventing access to a group of houses. Meanwhile, the yellow alert for landslides and floods in minor courses throughout Emilia-Romagna is also confirmed throughout tomorrow, while the alert level for intense storms and wind on the ridges is also yellow. The hydrometric levels of the waterways remain under close observation, especially on the border between the Bolognese and Modena territories already hit yesterday by heavy rain.

Since 7pm yesterday, seventy firefighters from Modena have been working together with colleagues from 15 commands from across the region to remedy the damage caused by the bad weather, which was devastating between Savignano, Marano and Vignola, although fortunately without injuries or victims. And now there is fear of a disastrous outcome for cultivated land, especially for cherries.
One hundred and forty millimeters of rain in a few hours between Vignola, Savignano and Marano; even two hundred beyond the Bolognese bank of the Panaro, so much so that it led to the overflowing of the Canal Torbido between Magazzino and Molino. These are the numbers, recorded by the Burana Reclamation Consortium, which have caused extensive damage and over 80 calls to the Fire Brigade by the inhabitants of the area. A situation that was already critical before 7pm on Monday and then continued throughout the night, one intervention at a time, with the joint efforts of over 70 firefighters from the Modena Command and the forces of fifteen other Commands from across the Region. The spillways, such as the Sonara di Savignano, continued uninterruptedly to discharge water into the Panaro, with a slow transit of the flood through the plain and the Bassa which were in turn affected by rainfall quantified at 60-80 millimetres. Ground floors, condominium areas, garages and garages ended up under water, some of which were filled with up to a meter of water and required a lot of work to be emptied. In terms of traffic, it was necessary to close Provincial roads 37 of Savignano and 41 Fondovalle Panaro, in the branch to Guiglia in the direction of Vignola, which were then reopened late in the morning. The census of the agricultural areas is underway: particular concern concerns the first fruits of the area, the cherries, whose harvest is now feared to be subject to considerable damage. If nothing else, no injuries were recorded during the emergency, also thanks to the timely warnings received from the COC of Vignola and Savignano to the populations of the areas that ended up under water.
