Since 9.45pm, on Thursday 2 May, the firefighters have been working on a large fire inside the IMP detergent company in Via IV Novembre in Altavilla Vicentina, which broke out inside one of the warehouses, while the workers were busy on the night shift. No one was injured. Within minutes the flames immediately spread to a large part of the warehouse.
The firefighters
arrived from Vicenza and in succession in reinforcement, from Arzignano, Lonigo, from Thiene with the volunteers, Verona and Rovigo with 5 fire engines, 4 tankers including a kiloliter tanker, 2 ladder trucks, the air truck and 37 operators, assisted by the official of shift, they began firefighting operations. After about three hours, the teams managed to contain the fire, managing to contain the flames to a portion of the warehouse of over 4000 m2, and avoiding a widespread blaze.
The part of the unfinished product warehouse structure affected by the fire collapsed, including several empty silos. A silo of sodium hypochlorite acid was protected from the flames by the fire brigade teams.
During the extinguishing operations, numerous explosions and explosions of the material involved in the flames. The causes of the flames are being investigated by firefighters.
ARPAV staff, the Carabinieri and the local police were on site. The operations to completely extinguish all the outbreaks and the clean-up by the teams will continue throughout today.
