“The Ravenna Coordination for the Climate – Out of the Fossil and the Emilia Romagna Climate and Environmental Emergency Network, as part of the countless initiatives that are taking place throughout Italy in this period against extractivist slavery, for the defense of the planet and health and for the ceasefire in all ongoing wars, they promote a day of meeting to reiterate the opposition to the destruction projects.
We must remember that:
- 2023 was one of the hottest years in human history
- Extreme events are fearfully increasing year after year, deaths from pollution are hundreds of thousands in Europe and several tens of thousands in Italy. The Po Valley is one of the most polluted areas in the world
- Science tells us that emissions of climate-altering gases are the main cause of global warming, and that methane gas is among the main climate killers
- The whole of Italy, and the Ravenna area more than others, is increasingly a land of conquest by the giants of fossil energy, with the active complicity of the institutions, despite the fact that gas consumption is constantly decreasing
- Dependence on fossil fuels is one of the main causes of all the ongoing wars and the growing risk of global conflict
One year after the extreme events of 2023 and the large demonstration that took place in Ravenna on May 6, which saw the participation of thousands of people to oppose fossil projects
Saturday 11 May, from 9.30 in the morning, at the Polo delle Arti of Piazza Kennedy 7, with authoritative witnesses of the main ongoing disputes, we will talk about the regasifiers, the new drillings, the Linea Adriatica gas pipeline, the collusions between fossil fuel powers and the university world.
AND in the afternoon we will be present in Piazza del Popolo to denounce the deafness and connivance of national and local institutions.
We ask everyone to join us in calling for a stop to the proliferation of all destructive, dangerous, polluting, expensive and of little use works (regasifiers, new drilling, gas pipelines, carbon dioxide storage plants, liquefied gas deposits ) and the launch of a true ecological transition policy.”
