The promotion of the upcoming and very important event Nova Gorica and Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025 (GO! 2025) and the presentation of the prestigious activities of the Scriptorium Foroiuliense of San Daniele del Friuli will be the innovations that will characterize the Region’s presence at the Show for 2024 of the book scheduled in Turin from 9 to 13 May. In a stand which, in part, follows that of the latest editions, entirely made with wood coming from our forests, Friuli Venezia Giulia – thanks to the organizational support of the Pordenonelegge.it Foundation – will dedicate space both to the culture of the territory, with almost forty appointments on the calendar, and the promotion of landscape beauty thanks to the active presence of the PromoturismoFVG staff.
Also for the 36th edition of the Show, the stand reserved for the Region will be located inside the Oval pavilion of the Lingotto. Next to the corner dedicated to the promotion of GO! 2025, the European capital of culture which in a few months will see the cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia as protagonists, one of the activities planned this year will be the presentation of the Scriptorium Foroiuliense Foundation of San Daniele del Friuli; under their care, a reproduction of a historic movable type printing press will be placed inside the stand, with which the Foundation recently reproduced Gutenberg’s Bible created in 1453. The system will be made available to the public to create prints in real time, while a series of valuable volumes will be on display for the entire duration of the fair.
This year, stations will be set up within the regional space for the presentation of the publications of some publishing houses belonging to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Publishers Association and the Kepown, La Patrie dal Friul and Società Filologica Friulana publishing houses. All these, together with other publishing houses (Digressioni editore, Samuele editore, Forum Editrice Universitaria Udinese, Edizioni Università di Trieste EUT and Vita Activa editore) and the Gorizia provincial committee of the Venezia Giulia Dalmazia National Association, will present a series of events in the arena located at the stand.
In particular, on Saturday 11 May at 8pm, to commemorate the centenary of the victory of the Tour de France in 1924 by Ottavio Bottecchia, recently the subject of a funding tender by the Culture and Sport Directorate, Claudio Gregori, historian and technician of the cycling, former journalist for the Gazzetta dello Sport and author of “The horn of Orlando. Life, death and mysteries of Ottavio Bottecchia”, and Alessandro Mezzena Lona, writer, former head of the cultural pages of “Il Piccolo” of Trieste and author of “La Morte Danza in Salita. Ettore Schmitz and the Bottecchia case”. Franco Bortuzzo, Rai Sport journalist and author of the docufilm “Ottavio Bottecchia. El furlan de fero”, co-produced by the Cineteca del Friuli, with the contribution of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the patronage of the Municipality of Gemona del Friuli. The film, starting from June 2nd, will be previewed in some theaters in the Region.
The stand will continue to be – as in the past – the reference point for poetry within the overall program of the fair for the events organized in collaboration between the Book Fair and the Pordenonelegge.it Foundation. In the stand’s arena there will be a dozen meetings with the authors that the Foundation has selected for the event. The poetry bookshop has been reconfirmed – also a point of reference of the Fair – which will offer the public numerous titles relating to this literary sector. Again with the collaboration of Pordenonelegge, meetings are planned with Antonella Anedda, recent winner of the Umberto Saba Prize 2024 (in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Municipality of Trieste and with LETS Letteratura Trieste), and Mariolina Venezia, winner of the Prize literary Friuli Venezia Giulia 2023 (in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region).
Finally, for the entire duration of the fair, tourist images of the regional territory and some videos presenting local cultural realities will be projected on the video walls present in the stand; the PromoTurismoFVG area will also highlight some initiatives of great cultural importance scheduled in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
